ACT / About
A practice built
around a laboratory.
Advanced Construction Technologies designs structures, assesses structures that are already standing, and develops the systems used to strengthen and connect them. The three activities feed each other — every system we hold a patent on started as a problem on one of our own sites.
How the office works
Site problem,
laboratory answer,
site again.
Most consultancies stop at the code check. We keep going: when a detail keeps failing on site, it gets built at full scale, instrumented and loaded to failure in a university laboratory, and the result becomes a new detail — then a granted patent, then a system available to the industry.
That is where the mechanical strengthening technique came from, and the rebar coupler, and the truss reinforcement that removed the bend from a corner joint. The test data behind each one is published and can be read in full.

Capabilities
What we are
engaged to do.
Structural design and site supervision
Complete structural design for malls, towers, factories, hospitals, mosques and housing — from the foundations up, with supervision through construction where the client wants it.
Assessment of existing structures
Condition surveys, load capacity assessment and technical reports on buildings, factories, towers and bridges — including structures damaged by fire, settlement, overloading or conflict.
Strengthening and repair design
Retrofit schemes using the MST system or conventional methods, designed to be built while the structure stays in use. Includes supervision of the strengthening work itself.
Bridges: inspection, assessment, redesign
Detailed inspection and assessment programmes at scale, each bridge with a report setting out strengthening, repair or replacement — plus visual-inspection review of thousands more.
Independent design review
Second-opinion review of someone else’s structural design or of an existing scheme before it is built, with a written record of what was checked and what was found.
Licensing and joint development
The five ACT systems are available for licensing, manufacture and supervised first application, including the laboratory programme needed to qualify them for a new market.
Where the work has been
Seven countries,
one standard.
Design, assessment and strengthening work delivered in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan and Djibouti — alongside damage assessment work carried out in Lebanon.
Every project is designed to the code the project is governed by, and every strengthening scheme is designed against a measured capacity rather than an assumed one.
